Bothell, WA, December 1, 2008 - Sonosite, Inc. (Nasdaq:SONO), the world leader and specialist in hand-carried ultrasound for the point-of-care, introduced today the S-GYN™ ultrasound tool, a streamlined, custom-designed solution for gynecologists who want to perform imaging for diagnosis and procedural guidance right in the patient exam room. "I have two great big machines in my office, but for a lot of what I'm doing in my day-to-day practice, such as evaluating abnormal bleeding, checking the ovaries or uterine structures for polyps or fibroids - I can do all that with the S-GYN without having to move my patient out of the exam room," said Shaunie Keys, MD of Evergreen Women's Care, in Kirkland, WA.

"A big advantage of the S-GYN system is its portability and that I don't have to disrupt work flow by shuffling patients to different rooms or interrupt my ultrasound tech's schedule. It's easy to learn and provides really good imaging. My patients feel more confident knowing that I will complete the ultrasound exam and they will have their results before leaving the office." Sonosite has engineered the S-GYN system to enable gynecologists to provide answers to their patients quickly. It integrates Sonosite's proprietary SonoHD™ and SonoMB™ technologies to provide crystal clear imaging of common gynecologic problems and to guide interventional procedures. With Sonosite's SonoAdapt™ technology, the clinician need only adjust two controls €“Depth and Gain €“ to quickly acquire the optimum image. The small footprint of the S-GYN fits easily beside the patient examining table and it can be ceiling or wall mounted to save critical space in a cramped setting.

The S-GYN tool is configured to use the C60x abdominal and ICTx transvaginal transducers and comes with Sonosite's industry-leading 5-year warranty, which covers the system and transducers and eliminates the need for costly annual service contracts. Sonosite also offers extensive training and education programs delivered on site, online and in collaboration with leading medical institutions and educators. The company plans to begin customer shipments before year-end. The S-GYN system joins the family of other S Series™ systems including: the S-Nerve™ for anesthesiologists, the S-Cath™ for interventionalists, the S-ICU™ for intensivists, the S-FAST™ for emergency medicine physicians and S-MSK™ for musculoskeletal specialists.
