Dr. Michael Lambert Receives Educator of the Year Award BOTHELL, WA - March 20, 2006 - Sonosite, Inc. (Nasdaq:SONO), the world leader in hand-carried ultrasound, announced today that Dr. Michael Lambert, who provides ultrasound education programs to Sonosite customers, has been recognized by the American Academy of Emergency Medicine (AAEM) for his outstanding commitment to ultrasound education for emergency physicians. The AAEM granted Dr. Lambert the 2006 Joe Lex Educator of the Year Award at its 12th Annual Scientific Assembly in February. Dr. Lambert trains physicians to utilize hand-carried ultrasound in the emergency department, improving the diagnosis and treatment of life and limb threatening conditions at the bedside.
Such applications range from FAST exams (Focused Abdominal Sonography for Trauma) for detecting fluid in the abdomen or to detect fluid around the heart, to evaluating internal organs injured by trauma, to the rapid diagnosis of an ectopic pregnancy, and to guidance for the placement of central venous catheters and intravenous lines. "Dr. Lambert is an outstanding clinician and a gifted teacher," said Kevin M. Goodwin, Sonosite President and CEO. "Hand-carried ultrasound allows the emergency physician to quickly gather critical diagnostic information in an environment where every second counts. By training so many physicians to use hand-carried ultrasound, Dr. Lambert is helping patients benefit from better care in emergency departments across the country. We are delighted that AAEM has acknowledged his leadership in this way."
"The American Academy of Emergency Medicine is proud of its longstanding relationship with Dr. Lambert and we value his enormous contribution to the education of emergency physicians," said Robert McNamara, MD FAAEM. "Participants in Dr. Lambert's courses consistently rate course content and instructor knowledge extremely high time and time again. He has very clearly earned the respect and admiration of his colleagues and is most deserving of this honor." Dr. Lambert has been practicing emergency medicine since 1988, and in June will join Advocate Christ Medical Center in Chicago to oversee a fellowship program in emergency medicine ultrasound. He provides ultrasound education to Sonosite customers through his independent education company, Sonoran Ultrasound LLC.
