Sonosite Hand-carried Ultrasound Systems Integral Part of Medical Support at the Winter Games
BOTHELL, WA, February 19, 2002 - Sonosite, Inc. (Nasdaq: SONO), world leaders in the hand-carried, point-of-care ultrasound market, today announced that the Company has delivered two Sonosite 180PLUS hand-carried ultrasound systems for use by the medical organization that has accompanied the German Olympic team to Salt Lake City."My colleagues and I view this hand-carried ultrasound system to be an ideal medical tool at the Olympic games," said Georg Huber, MD, Department of Preventative and Rehabilitative Sports Medicine at the University Hospital of Freiburg, Germany, and head of the German Olympic teams" medical support staff. "The image quality is excellent for the applications we have in mind and the portability is essential. A major advantage of the Sonosite system is that it is available for use the very moment we need it and can be used literally at any of the various event locations to meet the needs of the members of the German Olympic team.
Only hours after the Sonosite systems arrived in Salt Lake City, we were immediately able to determine that one of our snowboarders had aggravated a previous injury. Before completing the ultrasound exam, we considered this to be a new injury. The information we obtained using ultrasound helped us to proceed immediately with other imaging modalities."
"Having previously supported doctors in the summer Olympics in Sydney, Australia, we are excited to be part of the medical support group at the Olympic Games, once again, by providing our systems to Dr. Huber and the German Olympic team," said Kevin M. Goodwin, president and CEO of Sonosite. "Sonosite systems are very reliable, durable and offer excellent imaging capabilities which is ideally suited to examining patients in remote or difficult environments. We believe that this is yet another example of how our technology assists in making better, faster clinical decisions at the point of care in any setting."
