Acquires Leading Ultrasound Educator to Spearhead Effort
Appoints Directors for Global Education and Emerging Markets

BOTHELL, WA - April 30, 2004 - (Nasdaq: SONO), the leader in high-performance, hand-carried ultrasound, today announced plans to expand its global education programs in new clinical markets. To help facilitate its plans, the company also announced today it has acquired the assets of Chicago-based Windy City Ultrasound, Inc., a leading provider of ultrasound education for health care professionals. Terms of the agreement with Windy City were not disclosed.

"The most rapidly growing markets for hand carried ultrasound are for new and emerging applications," said Kevin M. Goodwin, Sonosite president and CEO. "As the innovators and leaders of the hand-carried ultrasound market, we believe Sonosite has a unique opportunity to accelerate the adoption of this technology into both new and traditional ultrasound markets by making available the best clinical education and information about these evolving applications and standards of care to our customers. Our new initiative is focused on achieving this goal."

To lead this effort, Theodore J. Nielsen, RT, RDMS, vice president and co-founder of Windy City Ultrasound, is joining Sonosite as director of global education. Nielsen has been affiliated with the ultrasound industry for over 25 years beginning as a clinical sonographer in 1978, and later holding positions as a clinical applications specialist and in product management with Corometrics and Aloka prior to starting Windy City Ultrasound four years ago.

"Sonosite technology is redefining the market and use of ultrasound," Nielsen said. "These lightweight, high-performing, battery powered systems enable life-saving diagnoses and patient management decisions right at the point of care. I believe the excellent performance and convenience of these systems will push ultrasound into new areas of medicine where it has not been routinely used before and that we will continue to see increasing demand by physicians, surgeons and other clinicians to learn how to best utilize this technology. I look forward to leading this new initiative for Sonosite and enabling clinicians to further improve patient care."

Sonosite also announced the appointment of Sam E. Larson as marketing director of emerging markets. Larson's career spans 14 years in the medical device industry and includes experience in the emergency medicine, critical care and international sectors of the patient monitoring industry.
