Dr. Kent Brantly, a clinical faculty member of the John Peter Smith Family Medicine Residency in Fort Worth, Texas, recently returned from a medical mission in Kampala, Uganda. He loaned a portable ultrasound device from Sonosite, which proved indispensable for both clinical and educational purposes. He writes:

I wanted to write to you to say thank you for the service provided by FUJIFILM Sonosite Global Health. I led a group of three residents from our program in Texas on a month-long international rotation in Kampala, Uganda, where we participated in over 200 cesarean deliveries over a 3-week period. The ultrasound machine we took with us was an invaluable tool in making the best decisions for patients at the point of care.

In addition to the clinical use, the ultrasound machine provided an educational opportunity. I was able to provide lectures and even some hands-on practice of limited obstetric ultrasound to our Ugandan colleagues. Working with the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Makerere University, I was able to contribute to their ultrasound training for their residents at Kawempe Hospital – the national maternity referral hospital for the country of Uganda.

With Sincere Gratitude,

Kent Brantly, MD
